The Lumix GX800 is Panasonic’s entry-level mirrorless model, which is marketed to people that want to dive into casual photography. It’s small and easy to use—but don’t let its size fool you. The GX800 is capable of shooting 4K videos at up to 30 frames per second, as well as 4K videos, with its 16MP Live MOS sensor. What you get in the end are high quality images and videos.

Although there are fewer buttons and no electronic viewfinder in the mix, it is the smallest and lightest mirrorless camera in the Lumix range.

Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III

The Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III is an updated version of the Mark II. While the two share similar features, the user interface was drastically changed for the third iteration in order to make the camera easier to use. Of course, some other bits were added, too.

The Mark III is equipped with a 16MP Micro Four Thirds sensor, which provides the same resolutions as its predecessor, but Olympus claims it offers superior performance in low-light conditions. Furthermore, it can also record 4K video at 30fps.

While the new autofocus module isn’t quite as fast as some of the systems used by other brands, its quickness is still pretty impressive.

Canon EOS M50

The M50 has a 24.1MP camera and an ISO 100-25,600 sensitivity range that’s expandable still to 51,200. However, its real strength lies in its ability to continuously shoot at 10fps at a fixed focus or 7.4fps with the focus adjusted between shots. Still, the most notable improvement is the debut of the company’s DIGIC 9 processor, thereby making it Canon’s first camera capable of shooting 4K video.

Canon’s EOS M50 slides into the company’s mirrorless lineup right in between its predecessor, the EOS M100, and the higher-end EOS M6. And with its improvements and features, the company has created a likeable camera that hits the right spot for beginners, while still offering full range of manual control for more veteran photography enthusiasts.

Fujifilm X-T20

A successor to the X-T10, Fujifilm’s X-T20 features a range of improvements, including the latest X-Trans CMOS II sensor that offers 24.3MP of resolution. This is a notch up from the X-T10’s lower 16MP resolution.

Paired with the X Processor Pro, the camera provides a native light sensitivity range of ISO 200 to 12,800 and is expandable to ISO 100-51,200. For continuous shooting, the X-T20 can go up to 8fps using the mechanical shutter. With the electronic shutter, it can go up to 14fps.

In addition to a higher 91 autofocus point compared to the X-T10’s 49, the X-T2- is now able to shoot in 4K video. It retains the same electrodot viewfinder from the X-T10, which gives 100 coverage at 0.62x magnification.

Sony Alpha A7 III

Sony’s Alpha A7 III may be listed at the bottom of Sony’s range of full-time mirrorless cameras, but it’s still a superb camera that ticks off many required boxes for a lot of photographers. The company has taken some of the best features from its flagship Alpha A9 and A7R III and managed to combine them in a single camera that has a remarkable mix of performance and image quality.

The Alpha A7 III has a 24.2MP full-frame sensor with a wide ISO range that’s expandable to a staggering ISO 50-204,800 that also shoots at 10fps max and 4K video. It also has a fast and responsive autofocus system with a revised button layout for intuitive control. Sony also improved on battery life for more camera action.

When shopping for the best camera that fits your budget, some sacrifices have to be made. You will need to let go of some features to hit the right price point as striking the right balance between what you want and how much you can spend is vital. Shop wisely and end up with a unit that you’re completely happy with—the options are aplenty; you just need to find the right one.
