Outlast 2 Is This Year’s Must-Have Horror Game

If you’re looking for a thrill, here’s how to get it

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, The Resident Evil franchise, Clock Tower, Amnesia: The Dark Descent—these are some of the most iconic horror video games to date. But this year, we’re all about Outlast 2, which promised to deliver fear, panic and a story that will keep pushing you forward. And it horrifyingly delivers.

The beginning is set.

You play the role of Blake, an investigative journalist and cameraman working with his wife, Lynn. Together, you take a helicopter ride to a region in Arizona to try and find out what happened to a young girl who was mysteriously murdered. The helicopter eventually loses its engine. When you wake up, you find the pilot skinned alive and tied to a tree. You’re left to look for Lynn in a creepy town.

The play.

You aren’t a fighter, but these monstrous people seem to be after you. You have no choice but to rely on your instincts and hide or run. There is no fighting; when they catch you, you die. And because it’s Outlast 2, you’ll have to use your camera and its never-enough battery to hear and see in the dark and hear through walls.

The mind games.

You find people that have committed suicide and read notes that eerily describe sacrificial offerings and use biblical verses. You hear voices that call out God and Satan. You’re chased by screams and pleas. You have to discover what happened to the people of the town.

The uncertainty.

You don’t know who to trust, but you have no choice if you want to survive. There are two opposing groups that crazily carry out their beliefs. Then there are the outsiders who are diseased and were outcast. Your own wife, who the townspeople say are carrying the anti-Christ, refuses to talk to you.

Who do you turn to?

The thrill.

It’s not knowing that makes Outlast 2 so thrilling. It’s the mysterious creatures that make it so scary. It’s the mystery that will keep you hooked.

Outlast 2 is now available for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
