What We Know About the Samsung Galaxy S10 So Far

Will the up-and-coming addition to the Galaxy lineup be worth the price tag?

This 2019, Samsung celebrates the 10th year anniversary of its flagship phone, the Galaxy S Series, through its latest iteration. World, get ready to meet the Samsung Galaxy S10.

Like any device with a loyal following, the Galaxy S10 is the subject of speculation, features and specs-wise, before its official release. With claims and expectations making rounds online, we can’t help but join the hype, too.

Up ahead, we’ve culled all the details we’ve learned so far about the Samsung Galaxy S10.

Release Date

It seems like Samsung is going ahead with the Galaxy S10 launch on February 20, 2019 during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) event in Barcelona. In case you didn’t know, the MWC has been the favorite venue of mobile companies for unveiling their latest devices.

Forbes notes that Samsung is opting for an early release, considering that the Galaxy S9 was officially released on March 16, 2018. Is anyone complaining, really? This means all the Android loyalists out there will be able to shop for the Galaxy S10 starting March 8, 2019.

Screen Sizes

Reports say Samsung is coming out with three (or possibly even four) versions of the Galaxy S10, with varying screen dimensions. At the entry level range, the Samsung Galaxy S10 model features a 5.8-inch flat OLED screen. Higher up the ladder sits the standard S10 model. Some leaksters say the mid-range model comes with the same 5.8-inch screen, but is curved on both sides and almost bezel-less at the top and bottom. However, there are also rumors that the screen of the Galaxy S10 standard model will measure 6.1 inches.

The premium model of the Galaxy S10, which could potentially be the Galaxy S10 Plus, might come with either a 6.4-inch or 6.7-inch display screen. Should rumors about the fourth model of the Galaxy S10 (codenamed “Beyond X”) turn out to be real, it’s going to be sized at 6.7 inches.

Storage Options

All models of the Galaxy S10 will provide you at least 128 GB of storage, although the standard S10 might also offer a 512 GB storage option. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S10 Plus can accommodate your large storage needs, with its its impressive 1 TB storage capacity.

Improvements to the Camera

The Galaxy S10 is getting a major overhaul in the camera department, if leaked renders of protective film for the phone prove to be true. The change is happening mainly because the South Korean tech giant is rumored to be ditching the notch display design in favor of Infinity O, Samsung’s lingo for a screen with a “punch hole” design for either one or both lenses of the Samsung Galaxy S10’s front-facing camera.

On the back, the Galaxy S10 may feature as many as three or four cameras. If Samsung proceeds with the triple-rear-camera angle, the specs will most likely be 12-megapixel sensor for the primary camera, 16-megapixel shooter for the second one, and 13-megapixel sensor for the last camera.

Built-in Fingerprint Scanner

Samsung may just bag the award for being the first to employ an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner on the Samsung Galaxy S10, particularly on the standard and S10 Plus models.

The entry-level variant will still sport a sensor, although a conventional one, on the side of the phone.

Price

Once the Galaxy S10 starts selling, be ready to part with some cold, hard cash. A Galaxy S10 Plus may have a price tag of $1,135 (128 GB variant), $1,390 (512 GB), or $1,750 (1 TB).

On the far end of the spectrum, the cheaper model is rumored to weigh in at $845, in exchange for some premium features such as curved display and in-screen fingerprint reader.

Based on rumors and leaks, the Galaxy S10 is bound to have all the makings of a cult favorite device, but until Samsung unveils the final product this year, all of this might just be wishful thinking.
