A Brief Look at Windows 11

Read up!

As the creator of the world’s leading operating system (OS), Windows has been one of the best innovators in the tech industry. With each update, the company introduces state-of-the-art features that are able to revolutionize the user experience.

With the arrival of Windows 11, the tech giant believes that this is their most powerful OS to date. Because of this, people are hovering towards all the latest tech and news updates to know what they can expect from the OS as it starts to undergo mainstream adoption.

Windows 11: Faster, Better, and Stronger

Earlier this year, Microsoft shared to the world that October 5, 2021 would be the Windows 11 release date. As the successor to the all-powerful Windows 10, tech enthusiasts had much to be excited about. To get you up to speed on things, here’s what you can look forward to when you upgrade!

A familiar yet new interface

The interface underwent a total makeover and features a simplified look with new animation, iconography and sounds. This is done to declutter your device and simplify the user experience.

Improved gaming capabilities

New features, such as the Auto HDR, make the OS significantly better for gaming than its predecessor. From this, you gain a wider range of brightness and colors that can even help you play older titles at a better quality.

Microsoft Teams integration

The new update gives you a chat function integrated with Microsoft Teams, which you can use in and outside of work. While it is still in its early stages, this simplifies communication as you always have quick access to the window on your home screen.

Brand new widgets

This feature can be found as a hidden panel that flies out from the left side of your screen. This includes quick access to tools and applications, which you can easily customize to your liking.

Voice typing

The voice typing feature makes note-taking more efficient with the dictation tool update. This can be used in several text editors, box composers and chat applications.

Centralized Start Menu and Taskbar

The new Windows 11 update features a centralized Taskbar and Start Menu to create a minimalistic design that helps you find everything you need faster. Its action center has also been adjusted to make the most of the new space provided.

Snap assist

A lot of focus has been placed on the multitasking aspect of the OS update, hence its improved snap assists feature. Apart from being able to drag and drop applications anywhere, there are also new snap layouts available.

Touch-first experience

Windows 11 comes with a dedicated tablet mode that enhances your touch-first experience with several new gesture controls. These can be customized to minimize, switch and access other applications.

New settings

A lot of new settings are available with this update, including detailed battery statistics and personalization keys. There are also new customizable features that you can use, such as programmed gestures for touch screens.

Updated system requirements

Given that Windows 11 has all these enticing features, those who want to use the OS must have a device that meets its hardware requirements. At a minimum, your laptop should have at least 4GB RAM and 64GB storage to download the new update. Apart from that, it should also run with a 1 GHz or faster dual-core 64-bit processor.

Should You Upgrade to Windows 11?

Windows 11 is unlike any of its predecessors. However, since the update is pretty new, you may be wondering if you should download the new OS today.

While the features above are enticing, remember that Windows 11 has more demanding hardware requirements. So, before anything else, you may need to do a PC health check to see if your device can run the new OS. In case it’s incompatible, this may be your sign to get a new computer.
