Want to Fly to Siargao? Here’s What You Need to Know

Itching to go to Siargao?

When talking about local beaches and surfing hotspots, chances are Siargao Islang will come up. Apart from its world-class waves and dreamy barrels, Siargao is also a great place to visit for an Island getaway for non-surfers.

The beautiful island of Siargao, which was included in TIME Magazine’s World’s Greatest Places of 2021, boasts scenic islands, white sand beaches, lagoons, caves, and waterfalls. Once the country eases lockdown restrictions and people can travel again, Siargao will be one of the top places on everyone’s travel list.

For now, it’s best to be safe and stay at home—but it wouldn’t hurt to prepare for your holiday travel plans in case Siargao lifts their travel restrictions again! Here’s a quick travel guide for everything you need to know to realize your Siargao trip.

Where is Siargao?

Siargao is a tropical island located in Surigao del Norte in northeastern Mindanao. Dubbed the “Surfing Capital of the Philippines,” the island is credited for introducing surfing to the country. Local and foreign travelers flock to the island’s beaches and best-kept surfing haven, Cloud 9, for its thick barreling waves.

Who are Allowed to Fly to Siargao?

As of August 2021, the heightened General Community Quarantine (GCQ) and Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) guidelines only allow essential travel. Tourists from Luzon and Visayas can fly to Surigao del Norte only during GCQ.

The Best Time to Visit Siargao

You can visit Siargao all year round, but the ideal time depends on your planned activities. If you intend to ride some exciting waves, it’s best to go between July and November, during the surfing season.

If you plan to visit the island’s pristine beaches, hidden lagoons and other breathtaking spots, go during the summer months of March to May. Generally, the peak season for Siargao is during the dry season or between March and October, and the off-peak season starts in November and lasts until February.

Siargao Travel Requirements

For Surigao del Norte residents traveling to Siargao by land, they must present the following requirements:

  • A negative result on Swab/Saliva RT-PCR Test or Antigen Test, taken within 14 days, regardless if partially or fully vaccinated against COVID-19; children 17 years below are exempted from this.
  • A valid identification card or proof of residency in the province

The pre-flight checklist for tourists traveling to Siargao when they allowed entry to travelers included the following:

  • A negative RT-PCR test result, taken within 48 hours from the point of origin
  • Confirmed booking of at least two nights from an accredited accommodation establishment
  • A round-trip ticket and travel details
  • Valid ID
  • Surigao del Norte e-Health Pass

You will need to email the necessary travel documents to [email protected] for approval a day before your trip.

For tourists who plan to travel once travel restrictions are eased, be sure to check the Department of Tourism’s (DOT) accredited accommodation establishments allowed to operate during GCQ.
