Malayan Colleges Mindanao Gears Up for Modernized Learning with Globe Telecom

Malayan Colleges Mindanao (MCM), an extension of Mapúa University in the Southern region of the Philippines, has prepared for an entirely digital classroom structure through Zoom Video Conferencing with Globe. The telecom company initially made Zoom available for faculty members, to support MCM in its journey towards 21st-century education.

“ICT solutions are a big aspect of making distance learning successful. Amidst challenging times, these technologies fill the gap between teachers and students, to enable them to communicate and work together,” said Danilo Tiongco, Director of IT at MCM and Chief Information Officer of iPeople, Inc.—a partnership between the Yuchengco Group of Companies and Ayala Corporation.

He added, “Despite the intricacies of fully online courses, we’re grateful for the support Globe continues to provide us. Not only did they give us access to Zoom Education Plans, but they also coupled it with technical support and training for our faculty members so they can assist students in the future.”

“Zoom acts as more than just a communications work tool,” mentioned Peter Maquera, Senior Vice President for Globe Business. “It's built with virtual classroom security to keep disruptions at bay. The video conferencing tool when integrated with existing cameras delivers better clarity and offers  high definition audio quality as well. Apart from these, Zoom makes learning outcomes easier through features such as chat, content sharing, remote control, session recording, co-annotations, digital whiteboards, integration with existing learning management systems, breakout rooms that allow participants to form smaller groups within a meeting—and the list goes on.”

Gearing up to become an extensively digital institution, MCM started using Zoom Video Conferencing for its announcements and webinars. The school also made the collaboration tool available for some faculty members to use during online classes.

MCM now offers fully online courses for senior high school, college undergraduates, and postgraduates. With excellence and relevance at the core of the Mapúa-led school, MCM continues to mold young Filipinos to become globally competitive, especially during these changing times. To enable this, the institution created a flexible learning system that accommodates a fully online setup, including the availability of electronically-published books, course certifications with industry partners, and e-learning platforms for virtual class collaboration.

Globe’s introduction of Zoom to MCM’s culture is only the beginning of what the school hopes will equip students to become digitally-versed professionals. As students and parents settle into the New Normal, Globe continuously works with academic institutions and local government units to ease the transition to a completely digital realm. Globe aims to recreate the way students learn through a suite of connectivity, communication, and collaboration solutions that spark their enthusiasm for education. At the same time, Globe engages organizations to view this period of ambiguity as an opportunity to encourage all Filipinos to take part in creating a safe and digital nation—ready to transform the world.

Curious minds need tools that enable ideas to ceaselessly flow. Give your students and faculty members the confidence to present, collaborate, and thrive in a virtual environment through Zoom Video Conferencing.
