Leading digital solutions platform Globe celebrates the successful participation of its employees at the recent 2023 Ironman Philippines triathlon. The company takes pride in fostering an environment that encourages its workforce to excel in diverse aspects of life, not just their professional endeavors.

Despite challenging conditions - strong headwinds, choppy currents, heavy rains, and slippery roads - 25 'Ka-Globes' from different business units and partners overcame each hurdle with fortitude and determination.

In the Full Ironman Individual event, the Globe team was particularly distinguished by two remarkable achievements.  0917 Tri Team Captain Elmer Santiago, a 2-time Ironman World Championship Qualifier, and Ramoncito "Monch" Gonzales, both from Globe’s Network Technical Group (NTG), secured their positions in the prestigious World Championships to be held in Nice, France this September.

Their accomplishments not only attest to their tenacity but also reflect the nurturing, supportive, and encouraging environment that Globe provides its employees. Santiago, in particular, has been "paying it forward," motivating others with his unwavering dedication and perseverance.

“In Globe, we allow and encourage our people to do what they do best, as aligned with our Soul Leadership principles. We guide our people on and off work. This also encapsulates unity among the different groups in Globe, how they all came together, starting and ending strong as one,” he said.

The event saw other remarkable contributions from participants such as NTG’s Toni Favis, who chose to join a team race despite being fit to compete individually, demonstrating the spirit of teamwork intrinsic in Globe's culture.

First-timers Tin Sabellano and Marc Manalastas, both of Globe Broadband, embraced the formidable challenge head-on. Danny Theseira, also of Globe Broadband, viewed the triathlon as an opportunity to champion inclusivity and advocate for a healthy lifestyle. In an inspiring personal achievement, Gael Mendoza of Globe’s Consumer Mobile Business, successfully fulfilled his goal of completing an Ironman before his 30th birthday.

Meanwhile, Globe Business Regional Marketing Manager Melvin Alfonso trained on his own and flew all the way from Cebu City to join the Ironman 70.3 individual category dedicated to his late sister. Melvin’s 1702 race number is very personal to him as this is the exact date (February 17) his sister was hospitalized and his finishing time of 8:01:54 is the same time she succumbed to cancer.

Other Ka-Globe who participated in this year’s Ironman were Philippe Bonalos of Sales Management, Ronald Quion of Project Management, Melvin Alfonso of Marketing, Chris Borromeo, Junro Matias and Addie Menes of Broadband, Vincent Chan, Willie So and Bubbles Paraiso of NTG, FiberHome’s Leslie Wang, Mike Du, David Yao and Karlis Li, RJ Limyu of Customer Experience, and Cathlyn Pavia of Mynt.

The 2023 Ironman is part of a series of long-distance triathlon races organized by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC).  This extremely tough single-day endurance activity perfectly mirrors Globe's mission of empowering employees to take on challenges, strive for excellence, and demonstrate resilience. Globe remains committed to creating "wonderful experiences for people to have choices, overcome challenges, and discover new ways to enjoy life."
