Globe Focuses Efforts in Vismin Areas with Low SIM Registration Numbers, Calls for Gov’t Support in Underserved Communities

As of May 19, 2023

Leading digital solutions platform Globe is directing its efforts to areas in Visayas and Mindanao where SIM registration rates are low as it continues to urge customers across the country to register their SIMs before the July deadline.

Darius Delgado, Head of Globe’s Consumer Mobile Business, said the company already actively partners with a number of LGUs to deploy and expand assisted registration sites.

“We have seen the lowest number of SIM registrations in Visayas and Mindanao, especially in rural areas. Our efforts to educate and encourage people to register are ongoing, and we are working with LGUs to make the process more accessible for those who need assistance,” he said.

Globe also called on the government to support telcos to increase the number of registered users in underserved communities.

“We need government support to roll out infrastructure that can be leased by telcos in missionary areas such as the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), Marawi, and other regions where telcos have a weak presence. Local government units are also critical in pushing for the registration of their constituents,” Globe’s General Counsel Froilan Castelo said.

Castelo said LGUs may provide access to SIM registration venues, on-site registration assistance, and training for local agents who can help facilitate the process. They can also expedite the provisioning of IDs for those who do not have government IDs, a vital requirement for registration.

Castelo added that complementing Globe’s information campaign through LGU support and assistance may significantly increase the number of registered users within the timeframe.

“Ultimately, the private sector and the government can collaborate to fast-track SIM registration in underserved communities,” he concluded.

Globe remains committed to providing Filipinos with reliable and accessible telecom services and ensuring that customers can enjoy the full benefits of their mobile phones. With support from the LGUs and national government, Globe is confident that more people in Visayas and Mindanao will be able to comply with the government mandate.

To register, Globe Prepaid, TM and Globe At Home Prepaid WiFi customers may use the GlobeOne app and Globe’s SIM registration microsite new.globe.com.ph/simreg, which are available 24/7.

Those who have a fully-verified GCash account may also register via the GCash app in just a few clicks. They just have to follow instructions after receiving a prompt to register their SIMs. Those who use the app to register will get 1GB of free data.

Postpaid and Platinum subscribers are already included in the SIM registration database.

Globe’s 144 Stores and 27 EasyHubs across the country are also open to help customers who need help. The company has also rolled out over 1,000 SIM registration assistance booths since registration started.

Globe Logs 85% Registration Among Active SIM Users, Confident of Reaching 100% by Deadline

As of May 15, 2023

Leading digital solutions platform Globe has announced significant progress in its SIM registration efforts. The company has successfully registered around 85% of its active users and is confident that it can cover the rest of its revenue-generating customer base well within the 90-day extension period.

Since the deadline was extended, there has been a slowdown in SIM registration volume, which is consistent across all players in the market. Despite this, Globe remains unfazed.

“We intend to have 100% of our revenue-generating base fully registered within the 90-day extension. We are confident that we can achieve this with the initiatives that we are taking,” said Darius Delgado, Head of Globe Consumer Mobile Business.

The company has implemented various steps to make registration as easy and accessible as possible, including opening up GCash as a channel for fully verified Globe and TM users to register their SIMs with just a few clicks.  This is on top of the GlobeOne app and the new.globe.com.ph/simreg microsite which are also available 24/7.

Additionally, Globe continues to operate its SIM-assisted registration booths and plans to scale up these efforts, particularly in rural areas where registration has lagged behind. The company's 144 Stores and 25 EasyHubs across the country are also open to customers who need help registering their SIMs.

Globe is committed to ensuring its customers’ compliance with the SIM Registration Act and is working closely with local government units, groceries, and malls to set up assisted registration booths in various remote locations.  It has also been regularly joining SIM registration assistance initiatives led by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) since January.

Globe continues to appeal to the government to allow the submission of alternative IDs for SIM registration as many Filipinos still lack government IDs.

"We applaud the government for extending the SIM registration deadline, as this gives millions of our unregistered customers more time to comply with the law. But we continue to ask for conditional registration that will allow us to accept other forms of identification such as school IDs and company IDs. This will help our customers who do not yet have a government ID to register across our channels," Delgado said.

Unregistered SIM users have until July 25 to complete their SIM registration. Globe urges its subscribers to quickly take advantage of the extended time and not wait until the last minute to register to avoid the deactivation of their SIMs.

Globe Calls on Customers to Register Their SIMs for Protection vs. Scams, Crime

As of May 10, 2023

Globe has renewed its call on customers to register their SIMs and avoid waiting for the last minute to register after the government extended the deadline to comply with the SIM Registration Act by 90 days.

SIM registration is an important step towards protecting one’s account and information. A registered SIM can be blocked in case of loss or theft. It also blocks customers from spam and scam texts. Through SIM registration, criminals won't be able to easily access personal information in apps and accounts.

Registered customers will also get to continue enjoying mobile services and apps for financial transactions and booking deliveries and ride-hailing services, among others. They will also get timely messages from government agencies, including emergency alerts.

“We would like to again call on our customers to please schedule their registration early. Please take advantage of the extension to complete your registration and comply with the law,” said Darius Delgado, Head of Globe’s Consumer Mobile Business.

“We urge you to please do this early and not wait for the new deadline so that you can get yourselves protected. We have made registration fast and easy, and we provide on-site support for those who need help,” he said.

The government has extended the registration deadline from April 26, 2023 to July 25, 2023. As of May 7, a total of 43.65 million have registered out of the total base of 84.2 million.

For Globe Prepaid, TM, and Globe At Home Prepaid WiFi users, use the GlobeOne app or go to new.globe.com.ph/simreg to register.

Globe Prepaid and TM users who have a fully-verified GCash account may also register via the GCash app in just a few clicks! They just need to follow instructions after they receive a prompt to register their SIMs, and they will get 1 GB of free data.

Postpaid and Platinum subscribers are already included in the SIM registration database.
