6 Sting Songs That Will Give You Unstoppable Kilig

When it comes to love songs, Sting’s your guy

It’s a certified rock n’ roll urban legend, confirmed by their frontman Sting in an interview with The Independent that the Police’s most famous song, Every Breath You Take, isn’t a love song. It’s a song about Cold War spies.

Take another listen at the song’s creepy chorus: “Every breath you take. Every move you make. Every bond you break, every step you take, I’ll be watching you.”

“I didn't realize at the time how sinister it is,” Sting told the newspaper. “I think I was thinking of Big Brother, surveillance and control.”

Thankfully, over a decades-long career as both the frontman of the Police and a best-selling solo act, Sting has given the world more than a couple of songs that definitely qualify as genuine ballads of love. Some of them even have that special, ahem, sting that we call kilig—especially in these six tunes that definitely deserve a spot in an essential Sting playlist.

If You Love Somebody Set Them Free

Title pa lang, feels na. “You can't control an independent heart. Can't tear the one you love apart,” he sings. Damn right, but that doesn’t mean that Sting won’t give it a valiant try.

I Was Brought To My Senses

With its folk guitars and spare arrangement, the song instantly transports you to lonely English country roads, your heart aching for the love of your life—and then the sky suddenly opens up, the drums come on and the sun shines as Sting croons, “I was brought to my senses. I was blind but now that I can see.  Every signpost in nature said you belong to me.”

Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic

Every torpe Pinoy can definitely relate to this song’s opening line: “Though I've tried before to tell her of the feelings I have for her in my heart. Every time that I come near her, I just lose my nerve…” Yup, we can definitely relate. And every guy who’s crazy in love will see that everything his crush does is beautiful, beautiful magic.

Fields of Gold

Sting’s solo signature song is also a master class of smooth kilig emotion, as he reminisces about happy times with his lover. “I swear in the days still left,” he promises her, “we will walk in fields of gold.”

If I Ever Lose My Faith In You

Sting says all the right words in this song. He may have lost his trust in God and science, and the ways of the world—but he’s never going to lose his faith in you, babe.

When We Dance

He knows he’s got nothing on the man you currently love, but Sting’s not giving up without a fight. And by fight, we mean this touching, tender ballad, all swelling synths and gentle harmonizing and poetry about how he’s still in love with you and will do anything for you.
