6 Albums We Can’t Wait to Stream: February 2021

Including some standout releases from the first week of the month

February kicked off with a pretty great soundtrack thanks to artists like Bad Sounds and Broods, The Killers and FKA twigs. Single releases aside, the rest of the month looks just as promising if we’re talking about new albums, too. To give you a preview, February is giving us new Foo Fighters, Dua Lipa, Mogwai, The Aces and CHUNG HA.

Depending on your music faves, the excitement will, understandably, hit a little differently with some albums. In our case, it’s the mix of the long and extended plays in the roundup ahead. Scroll through and check out the six albums we can’t wait to stream this month!

Homegrown by VanJess

Sisters Ivana and Jessica Nwokike are back with a body of work that’s a little old-school R&B, a little dance-pop and definitely full of earworms. Released via Keep Cool and RCA Records, the Nigerian-American music duo’s sophomore album is balanced, enlisting acts like KAYTRANDA, Phony Ppl and Devin Morrison for some of their sure-fire bops.

Death by Rock And Roll by The Pretty Reckless

After releasing the title track for the album in the middle of 2020 and teasing the release with the music video for 25 in December, Death by Rock And Roll will soon be available in full. For frontwoman Taylor Momsen, the fourth studio album “almost feels like the first record in the sense that we really threw everything that we had at it.” She adds: “I think it took us, in my opinion, to a new level. It's a new and improved PRETTY RECKLESS.”

Death by Rock And Roll drops February 12.

The Highlights by The Weeknd

Ahead of his Super Bowl halftime performance, R&B artist The Weeknd dropped his greatest hits album entitled The Highlights. The 18-track compilation album includes recuts of notable hits like In Your Eyes, Blinding Lights and Save Your Tears, as well as his collaborations with Kendrick Lamar and Ariana Grande. SG Lewis’ highly-anticipated debut LP is already looking like the dance/synth-pop album to get us through 2021. After hit singles and collaborations beginning in 2015, the English musician is set to lend his vocals to several tracks in times, a project three years in the making.

time comes out February 19.

Life Support by Madison Beer

American singer-songwriter Madison Beer has been releasing music since 2013, and her debut studio album has been a long time coming. Life Support, which has been in the works since the release of her first EP As She Pleases in 2018, is something very personal to Beer. “I was going through genuinely a really, really tough time when we were creating this album. I had just been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, and I was in and out of a lot of dark mental states, and I was in therapy three times a week,” she told NME. “I genuinely believe that the time that I was creating my album and the time that I was genuinely suicidal and not wanting to live anymore were intertwined for a reason, because that was my life support. That’s why I called this album Life Support—because it kept me alive.”

Life Support drops February 26.

FLOWERS for VASES / descansos by Hayley Williams

A more tender, vulnerable side to Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams comes to the fore with her second solo album. Following her 2020 release Petals for Armor, the surprise drop FLOWERS for VASES / descansos takes stock of raw human emotion. “I wrote and performed this album in its entirety. That’s a career first for me. I recorded it at my home in Nashville, the home at which I’ve resided since Paramore released After Laughter,” Williams said in an Instagram story. “2020 was really hard but I’m alive and so my job is to keep living and help others to do the same. Yes, Paramore is still a band.”
