While we dream, these Filipinos claiming 2019 do
The first trimester of 2019 is coming to a close and while the rest of us are still dreaming up what the next few months will (hopefully) bring, there are a select few who could already call it quits and still end the year on a high note. Kai Sotto
Former Ateneo Blue Eaglet Kai Sotto is well on his way to fulfilling his dream of playing in the NBA. Earlier this month, Kai flew out to Atlanta, USA to focus on his training with the hope of joining the professional basketball league in 2021 or 2022.
As if this isn’t enough to spell great things for the 7-foot-2-inch center, he’ll also be in Europe as his father confirmed that Kai has offers to join Spanish clubs Real Madrid, Barcelona and Saski Baskonia, as well as German club Alba Berlin.
Kim Jones
Almost a year ago, Kim Jones launched The Fore, which describes itself as a series of creative collaborations. And as 2019 has proven, Kim’s been fulfilling her promises.
The latest collaboration, x Pranca, features South Sea Baroque Pearls and 14-karat gold and celebrates the uniqueness of opposites. The items are selling out fast, but if there’s one thing we’ve picked up on, there’s always something more to look forward to from Kim Jones.
Mikey Bustos
As one of the most followed Filipino YouTubers, Mikey Bustos needs no introduction. But just a few days ago, he did come out to the world on social media.
In a series of Instagram posts, Mikey hinted at a new life and explained that he had also just revealed the news to his father a few days ago. “It’s 2019 (as my dad put it when I came out to him a few weeks ago),” the 37-year-old wrote in a caption. “And a great time to be alive [as part of the] LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Transgender, Bisexual) [community].”
Saab Magalona
After losing her daughter with husband Jim Bacarro last year, Saab Magalona announced in a recent Instagram post that she’s expecting again.
Saab has been relatively public about the ordeal she and her family had to go through when they lost Pancho’s twin sister but has been equally vocal about how she believes in miracles because of her little boy. So for now and for the months to come, we’re totally behind her and her growing family.
VPeepz
In World of Dance, VPeepz is making headlines.
The Pinoy group beat out Battle Droids with their performance at The Duels round, of which Ne-Yo noted their precision. Continuing their impressive run, the judge even gave their April 14 routine a perfect score of 100—which helped cement their seat at the Division Final. And if VPeepz keeps going at this pace, it looks as if they might just take on the World Final as well.

With the recent events happening, it’s been a little difficult to keep our heads up. But whether social or personal, sometimes it’s about keeping things in perspective. It might take a little more digging, but there is still a lot to take pride in—you just need to look around.
