Autosweep and Easytrip RFID: Everything You Need to Know

For a smooth and easy time

If you’ve travelled to the north or south of the Metro pretty frequently, you’ve probably experienced first-hand the long queue of cars right before entering the toll gates. Given that major highways, NLEX and SLEX in particular, are transitioning to 100% cashless transactions, this spectacle isn’t a surprise.

With COVID-19 still raging, government agencies are continually looking for ways to keep the public safe. Apart from closing down schools, offices and nonessential establishments, one preventive measure they’ve taken is to require all motorists to get an RFID. Since this sticker enables contactless transactions, it should help reduce the virus' transmission.

Unfortunately, the heavy traffic on the highway means that many car owners are still unregistered for one. In case you haven’t applied yet, get on board as soon as possible, even if the deadline is currently unclear and stated as “until further notice.” So while we’re still at open the window, better get on board. Besides, failure to do so will cost you hefty fines.

With that said, you may have a ton of questions in mind. How do these stickers work? What is the application process like? To make things easier for you, this guide we’ve prepared will discuss everything you need to know.

Everything You Need to Know About Autosweep and Easytrip RFID

NLEX and SLEX are operated by the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) and The San Miguel Corporation (SMC), respectively. To let you travel quickly and safely, they offer RFIDs that can be installed on your vehicle.

What is RFID?

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) stickers from AutoSweep and Easytrip utilize electromagnetic fields to identify and track the vehicles with the sticker. The RFID device contains a radio transponder, radio receiver and transmitter.

When triggered by an RFID reader, such as passing through a tollgate, the sticker transmits digital data back to the reader and subtracts the payment without a cashier's physical intervention. If you want access to a particular expressway, you need to take note which RFID it’s registered to.

    • NAIAX Drive-Thru westbound, Skyway/NAIAX

Where to install your RFID Sticker?

You can place your RFID sticker in three locations on your car:

  • Windshield. Your windshield is the ideal spot since the sensors are located above the tollbooth and on the sides. However, if your windshield has at least a medium tint, it may reduce the device's effectiveness.

  • Headlight. Sticking your RFID to your headlight is a good idea if you have a transparent sticker.

  • License plate. You can get an attachment for your RFID sticker so you can place it on top of your front license plate.

You can top up Autosweep and Easytrip through their designated kiosks on the highway or at a reloading center such as 7-11 or SM. But with the risks of exposure, you may want to avoid physical RFID loading stations. Take advantage of digital methods!
