Things To Do With Your Family When It’s Raining Hard

Time to make those rainy days in a little more fun

There’s no doubt about it now: The rainy days are here. And while this means some reprieve from the hot summer sun, it also means we’re in for some days and nights at home—which doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing.

Take the opportunity to spend some quality time with your family. And no, we do not mean sitting in one room and being on your separate smartphones or tablets. We mean actually spending time together. And no matter what age you are, there’s something for you.

Hold a baking or cooking class

There might be no better time to learn or teach those family recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation. It’s time to get everyone in the kitchen to finally learn what it takes to make those beloved cookies, mouthwatering kare-kare or praised adobo.

Have an art class

This may be a little more for the kids, but who doesn’t love getting their hands dirty with art? Don’t worry about the mess this time and just let everyone’s creativity loose. Bring out some pens, paint, brushes and paper out! But do make it clear that everyone will help with the cleaning as well.

Have a film fest

For those slower days—which are inevitable with the weather—sit the family down and enjoy a film fest. Everyone can choose a movie they want to see or that they want to share with the family. Just load up Netflix, search and click play. Of course, if you’re too relaxed to be bothered thinking about what film you want, Netflix has a categorized library for easy browsing.

Do something good

The rainy season can also be a great time for some spring cleaning. The weather will keep you and your heads cool enough to actually finish sifting through your closets. Take a look around and see what you don’t wear or want anymore. See what you all don’t use around the house, like an old table or a few chairs. Pack all these things away and donate them instead—you’ll feel good and less cluttered.

Have a sleepover

When the day is done, have a traditional sleepover. Lay out some blankets, pillows and mattresses and just enjoy each other’s company as you each drift off to sleep. But not without some stories and family gossip, naturally.

This rainy season, grab the opportunity to spend time with your loved ones. But if you’re the type of family that can’t stay in, we have a list of places for you to visit as well.
