5 Ways to Strengthen Your Immune System

With everything happening, these things are essential

When news outlets reported that a patient in Manila was confirmed with Novel Coronavirus, the country fell into a level of panic that most of us had never seen before. Face masks were going out of stock, shelves that used to stock alcohol were suddenly empty and companies around Metro Manila started taking their employees’ temperatures every morning.

But while face masks and alcohol will help keep Coronavirus (and other viruses) away, there’s also a need to strengthen your immune system.

But how?

1 Eat the right food

One way to naturally boost your immune system is to eat the right kind of food. More fruits and vegetables are the general rule, but if you want to be specific, you should stock up on the citrus options, broccoli, spinach, papaya and kiwi. If you’re not a big fan of those, you can also drink green tea, use more turmeric and snack on some almonds.

2 Sleep

If you’ve noticed that you get a cold more often whenever you’re lacking sleep, it’s because your immune system is weaker—which is why sleep is also one of the best ways to strengthen your immune system. Understandably, not everyone can drift off as soon as they hit the bed, so try to listen to and observe your body.

Should you need more time to settle down, get to bed quicker whenever you can. If soft music soothes you, have it play in the background.

3 Get some sun

Sunlight triggers our skins’ production of vitamin D, which in turn helps keep respiratory illnesses away. So don’t be afraid to step out of the shade once in a while and soak in some sun—but also put sunblock. You don’t want any damage.

4 Exercise

Before you get turned off, a full-fledged workout routine is not necessary to strengthen your immune system; a bit of a walk will do just fine. Almost an type of activity that you do to strengthen yourself physically will do well for your immune system as well.

5 Wash your hands with soap and water

As often as you can, wash your hands with soap and water—and wash them properly; don’t rush it. Get all the way to your wrists and in between your fingers.
