Unlocking of Mobile Phones

What is the NTC Memorandum Circular (MC) No. 01-05-2019 about?

The NTC MC No. 01-05-2019  is the government mandate defining the rules and regulations on the unlocking of mobile phones and devices for PTEs (Public Telecommunications Entity).

What are the requirements to have my device unlocked?

For Globe Business customers, the account holder can request for unlocking provided that their subscription is already out of contract and has no remaining balance from the previous bill.

For Globe Postpaid customers, there’s there’s no need to request for unlocking. Devices will be unlocked after contract expiry.

For prepaid customers, the requirements for handset unlocking are the IMEI of the Globe-provided handset availed as a prepaid phonekit along with an active Globe mobile number.

Where can I have my device unlocked?

For Globe Postpaid customers:

There’s no need to request unlocking. Your devices will be unlocked after your contract expires.

  • To check if your device is unlocked, insert a non-Globe SIM into your phone and restart your mobile device. To check for a non-Globe signal, make sure your mobile data is on or that you're connected to Wi-Fi. For further assistance on device unlocking, you may visit a Globe store near you or submit a request to Globe Telecom on Facebook Messenger

For Globe Prepaid customers:

The request can be made at Globe stores, hotline, and online through the Globe Telecom Facebook Chat.

What handset models can you unlock?

We have unlocking processes in place for all Globe-issued devices. This includes handsets, tablets, and tattoo stick/pocket Wi-Fi.

Can I have my phone unlocked even if I’m within contract?

If you’ll request this, the unlocking of your device will be subject to settlement of pre-termination charges.

Can prepaid phonekits be unlocked as well?

Yes, they can. The IMEI of the Globe-provided handset you availed as a prepaid phone kit and an active Globe mobile number would need to be provided upon request.


The IMEI, or International Mobile Equipment Identity, is your mobile phone’s unique serial number which can be found as a sticker on your device’s box and also at the back of your device.

I have a dual SIM device, can I have one of the SIM slots unlocked?

Unlocking will be done for both slots at the same time.

What should I do if my unlocking request says my device has an invalid serial number?

Make sure that the device being requested for unlocking is Globe-issued. To check your IMEI or device serial number, dial *#06# on your keypad or go to your device settings.

Do I have to pay anything to have my device unlocked?

Device unlocking is free of charge as long as you are out of contract. If you’re within contract, Globe will require you to settle pre-term fees.
