Globe and its technology partner, Missouri-based software company AMDOCS donated Globe At Home Prepaid WiFi (HPW) units with free data to 130 teachers of five public schools across the country, as the resurgence of COVID-19 cases further delayed the resumption of face-to-face classes.
The collaboration between Globe and AMDOCS aims to address the lack of affordable high-speed data connectivity for the less-privileged, given that internet connectivity and digital technologies are necessary for online learning amid the global health pandemic.
AMDOCS donated Globe HPW modems while Globe provided a free data package for one whole month to ensure that the teachers are well-equipped with the necessary technology to fulfill their role in distance learning.
“We want to bridge the digital divide by helping public school teachers connect with their students and continue their online learning,” said AMDOCS Customer Business Executive Nati Oz Sinay.
“We are happy to partner with Amdocs on this endeavor. With the current situation where classes are being held online, it is imperative for teachers to get the same connectivity support for remote distance learning in order to perform their duties,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe Chief Sustainability Officer and SVP for Corporate Communications.
Ayala Foundation, Inc. (AFI) identified the beneficiaries of the donation. Recipients were 40 teachers of General Juan Araneta Elementary School, 24 teachers of Catabla Baybay Elementary School, and 14 teachers of Bubog Elementary School, all in Negros Occidental. Other beneficiaries were 40 teachers of H.N Cahilsot Central Elementary School in General Santos City and 12 teachers of Bongbongon Elementary School in Cagayan de Oro City.
AMDOCS also provided food packages that were distributed by AFI to underprivileged people in the said communities.
Last year, the Department of Education (DepEd) was forced to adopt the blended learning set up for SY 2020-2021 as part of the government’s efforts to continue classes and school activities while keeping students and teachers safe from the virus.
Globe remains committed to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals particularly SDG No. 9 which is to “significantly increase access to information and communications technology and strive to provide universal and affordable access to the internet in the least developed countries by 2020.
