Relief packs reach quake-hit areas
Globe has resumed operations of its Libreng Tawag, Libreng Charging and Libreng WiFi (LT/LC/LW) station in quake-hit Bangued, Abra, just as life-saving relief goods reached critical areas.
The booth, where quake survivors may place calls to loved ones for free, access reliable WiFi connectivity, and charge their phones, will remain open until Aug. 5.
This is the continuation of Globe’s LT/LC/LW station in Bangued, having been activated just hours after the quake on Wednesday, July 27. It stayed open until Friday, July 29, then resumed on the 31st, as the team delivered relief packs to both Ilocos Sur and Abra on the 30th.
Also over the weekend, Globe delivered relief packs in some of the worst-affected quake-hit areas in North Luzon as it resumed provision of free connectivity in Abra, the epicenter of the powerful July 27 quake that claimed lives and destroyed critical infrastructure.
In partnership with PureGo, the online grocery app venture of Globe and Puregold, Globe brought food packs and hygiene kits to Bangued in Abra and Vigan, Ilocos Sur to support residents in their day-to-day needs. The relief packs contained food and hygiene items.
Last week, Globe also set up free WiFi connectivity at the Bangued police station to provide a reliable communications line to support disaster response operations.
Globe also provided prepaid load to evacuees in Abra, in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). Meanwhile, KonsultaMD is also offering free consultations to quake survivors until Aug. 31.
The Globe Group advocates continuous support for quake relief efforts through its various donation channels. Globe customers may donate by converting their unused data to Rewards and via GCash.
The 7.0-magnitude quake that shook Luzon on Wednesday destroyed historical structures, damaged buildings and homes, and affected over 100,000 families in northern provinces, according to government data.
Globe’s network has stayed fully operational in quake-hit areas, with no damage to infrastructure detected.
