All About the 33rd SEA Games
The 2025 Southeast Asian Games, officially known as the 33rd SEA Games, wrapped up after 12 days of intense competition.
This year, the theme was “Green SEA Games,” focusing on climate action, environmental sustainability, and achieving net-zero emissions. The official mascot, “The Sans,” has also been revealed, representing Thai identity and unity.
Where was the SEA Games 2025 held?
Thailand was the host nation for the SEA Games 2025. The games were held across three main provinces: Bangkok, Chonburi, and Songkhla.

Sports, Events, and Demonstration Games
The SEA Games 2025 showcased a total of 574 events, divided into three categories, unfolding in full swing as competition intensifies:
- Sports, the core competitions that drive the Games
- Additional competitions, which brought fresh variety and excitement
- Demonstration sports, which showcased emerging disciplines without affecting the official medal tally
Sports covered the mainstay events, from aquatics, ball games, and combat sports to extreme events and Southeast Asian favorites like pencak silat and sepak takraw. Esports also took a spotlight here, thrilling fans across the region.
Additional competitions added flavor to the schedule with activities such as Air Sports (Paragliding and Powered Paragliding), Flying Disc (Ultimate and Disc Golf), and Tug of War, all awarding medals that count toward the Games’ overall standings.
Demonstration sports feature Mixed Martial Arts, giving athletes a platform to shine and audiences a taste of new action without impacting the official tally.

Team Philippines delivered a strong performance, securing 50 gold, 72 silver, and 154 bronze medals for a total of 276 and sixth place overall.
Host Thailand dominated with a record-breaking haul, but our athletes shone brightly in key events, ending long droughts and creating historic moments.

Standouts included the Filipinas women’s football team, who made history by claiming the country’s first-ever SEA Games gold in the sport. They broke the Thailand-Vietnam duopoly with dramatic penalty shootout wins in the semifinals and final.
The men’s baseball team retained their gold with a hard-fought victory over Thailand, while both the men’s and women’s softball teams swept gold. The RP Blu Boys reclaimed the title and the RP Blu Girls extended their reign.
Wushu star Agatha Wong added to her legacy with a sixth career SEA Games gold in women’s taijiquan-taijijian, once again proving her regional dominance in the sport.
Other highlights include dominant showings in athletics, swimming, and practical shooting.

Justin Kobe Macario (Taekwondo)
Justin Kobe Macario delivered the Philippines’ very first gold of the Games in men’s individual freestyle poomsae, kicking off the medal rush with a breathtaking routine that set the tone for the entire delegation.
Kayla Sanchez (Swimming)
Olympian Kayla Sanchez made waves in her SEA Games debut, powering the women’s 4 x 100 meters freestyle relay to gold alongside teammates Xiandi Chua, Chloe Isleta, and Heather White.

Pi Durden Wangkay (Athletics)
Pi Durden Wangkay joined the athletics team as a gold medalist from the recent Asian Youth Games. He earned his spot by winning the boys’ 200-meter dash at the event.
Team Liquid PH (Esports)
Team Liquid PH (TLPH) represented the Philippines in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang after dominating the SIBOL qualifiers. They featured an all-star roster of Sanford Marin “Sanford” Vinuya, Karl Gabriel “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno, Alston “Sanji” Pabico, Jaypee “Jaypee” Gonzales Dela Cruz, and Kiel Calvin “OHEB” Soriano.
John Carlo “Caloy” Roma also joined TLPH’s core team in successfully defending the country’s gold medal streak as the SIBOL MLBB Men’s Team.
Meanwhile, TLPH’s Clarisse “CLA” Cordova joins the NAVI PH core to fuel the SIBOL MLBB Women’s Team’s valiant charge, clinching silver in a heart-stopping seven-game thriller against Malaysia, where they fell 3-4 after leading 3-2.
Alas Pilipinas (Volleyball)
Following several recent podium finishes in international leagues, the Alas Pilipinas national volleyball teams have entered the SEA Games in strong form.
As competition intensifies, both the men’s and women’s squads are poised for deep runs, with medal contention very much within reach heading into the closing matches.
Gilas Pilipinas (Basketball)
Coming off their redemption gold in 2023, Gilas Pilipinas returned to the SEA Games as defending champions and have once again looked the part.
Gilas Pilipinas men defended their title with a comeback gold over host Thailand, joined by the women’s team for a 5x5 basketball sweep.
