Globe 0917 Lifestyle Launches Its First Ever Sustainability Line with Recycled Pet Bottles

Progressive urban brand 0917 Lifestyle of Globe joins the battle against single-use plastics by collaborating with Revolve, a Philippine-based social enterprise.  The partnership came out with a product line that utilizes recycled polyethylene tetraphyte (RPET) bottles to help reduce harmful plastic waste in the environment.

Revolve produces corporate merchandise from RPET bottles and has supported Globe in various sustainability initiatives and environmental advocacies in the past. RPET takes old plastic materials, usually plastic bottles, and extracts the core PET ingredient, which can be turned into reusable textile.

The milestone collaboration for 0917 Lifestyle’s sustainability initiative integrates the innovative use of RPET material in its product offerings, such as T-shirts and tote bags.

The 0917 Lifestyle Sustainability Shirt, an especially recycled custom unisex shirt, is made from 60% cotton and 40% RPET, equating to roughly four to six 1-liter plastic bottles. The tote bag is made from 100% recycled plastic bottles, exactly three one-liter bottles worth.

Beng Ochoa, Head of 0917 Lifestyle, talks about the idea behind the collaboration, “We worked with Revolve to bring our vision to #StartANewLife by integrating RPET in the product’s fiber material and even its visual design. The Sustainability Shirt and Tote Bag promote environmental awareness and inspire customers to always choose products that promote a responsible and sustainable lifestyle.”

The new sustainability collection is available online at 0917 Lifestyle - Sustainability Initiative.

“Our collaboration with Globe and 0917 Lifestyle is a strong testament that our vision for a sustainable future is very much aligned. We look forward to more meaningful collaborations as both our organizations continuously advocate for sustainability and environmental conservation,” said Regie Pablo, Founder of Revolve.

The launch of 0917 Lifestyle’s sustainability line is one of the latest initiatives added to Globe’s strategic sustainability-linked programs. “Our drive to create a Globe of Good includes various environmental initiatives— from conservation to protection to ensure we are living responsibly to maintain a liveable earth for generations to come,” shares Yoly Crisanto, Globe Chief Sustainability Officer and SVP for Corporate Communications.

Globe has always been a staunch supporter of the campaign against single-use plastics. In 2019, Globe took a stance against the proliferation of the material by instituting a ban on plastic spoons, forks, straws, and cups within its headquarters. This was part of the WASSUP ('Wag Sa Single-Use Plastic) program to educate employees on the hazardous impact of plastics on the environment and human health.

Globe also tapped Green Antz Builders, Inc. for the proper disposal and processing of plastic wastes within its corporate premises. It even purchased a plastic shredder to ensure that all remaining single-use plastics are processed responsibly before turning over to Green Antz for use as a component of eco-bricks and pavers to build schools and garden pathways.

To further reduce its waste production in corporate offices, Globe has also tapped Vending Experts Night and Day Philippines, Inc. (VEND Phils. Inc.) to develop the first vending machines in the country that operate using cashless and contactless transactions. The innovative vending machine integrates Globe’s sustainability campaign by offering customers a P1 discount on their transactions if they opt to use their mug instead of disposable paper cups.
