Globe Supports PH Economic Recovery through Infra Builds and Upgrades, Job Creation

Digital solutions platform Globe is committed to supporting the country on its road to economic recovery as it fast-tracks infrastructure builds and network upgrades, provides jobs, expands businesses, and enhances the digital experience for Filipinos over two years into the pandemic.

Further ramping up activities across its portfolio this year, the company aims to help buoy the Philippine economy as the country reported an encouraging 5.6% expansion in 2021, lifted by a 7.7% Q4 economic growth over looser quarantine restrictions through the holidays.

“Globe is a constant ally of Filipinos as we collectively face a persistent pandemic. They can count on us to provide products and services that support their needs in the midst of our changed reality, when most of our activities have gone virtual,” said Ernest Cu, Globe President and Chief Executive Officer.

“We will continue to build, innovate and make our products and services more accessible. With all of the Globe Group, we will win as one on the road to a new and better normal,” he said.

For one, e-wallet GCash has been instrumental in providing Filipinos a safe and reliable platform for financial transactions when strict lockdowns were enforced in 2020. GCash has over 51 million users on its platform.

GCash is among brands under Globe’s non-telco subsidiary 917Ventures, which also offers services that have proven crucial in providing Filipinos their basic needs during the pandemic, including telehealth provider KonsultaMD and online grocery platform PureGo.

917Ventures’ growing portfolio of companies– now at 8– has also been helping provide jobs in the middle of a lingering health crisis.

Globe also continues to ramp-up enhancement and expansion of its network as Filipinos heavily rely on the Internet for work, school and entertainment.

As the country’s Leader in Mobile, Globe built 1,407 new cell sites last year despite remaining movement limitations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It also upgraded and expanded 22,300 mobile sites, and installed over 2,000 5G outdoor sites and in-building solutions (IBS) during the said period.

Meanwhile, the Asticom Group of Companies, a shared services provider under the Ayala conglomerate, contributes to economic recovery efforts through supporting business growth and linking job hunters to employers.

Globe’s telco business has over 8,200 employees, while the Globe Group, its ever-expanding family of businesses, has seen steady growth in recent years, with its workforce now at a total 15,417.

Globe strongly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly UN SDG No. 9, highlighting the roles of infrastructure and innovation as crucial drivers of economic growth and development. It is committed to upholding the UN Global Compact principles and contributing to 10 UN SDGs.
