Globe successfully demonstrated its Globe Starlink satellite-to-mobile service during President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s Brigada Eskwela visit to Binuangan Elementary School, located in an island barangay in Obando, Bulacan. This marks one of the country’s early technical validation activities for emerging satellite-powered mobile connectivity.

During the event, President Marcos became one of the first in the country to witness the technical validation of Globe Starlink’s satellite-to-mobile service capabilities in a real-world setting. The demonstration formed part of broader efforts to explore technologies that can help expand connectivity access to geographically isolated and underserved communities.

Using the Globe Starlink satellite-to-mobile service, a successful WhatsApp call was conducted between DICT Secretary Henry Aguda and DICT Assistant Secretary for Regional Operations June Vincent Manuel S. Gaudan. Secretary Aguda was stationed at Badjao Floating Integrated School, a remote community school located around 30 minutes by boat from Isabela Port in Basilan, while Asec. Gaudan was onsite at Binuangan Elementary School in Obando, Bulacan, together with Globe’s Network Technical Group.

The activity also marked the first live Globe Starlink satellite-to-mobile demonstration in Mindanao. During the validation, Globe also successfully tested SMS messaging in Basilan, with messages received within a minute.

The satellite-to-mobile demonstration took place alongside President Marcos’ remote call with Secretary Aguda using a separate Starlink-powered WiFi connection installed at the school. The activity showcased how different satellite-enabled technologies can help support the government’s mandate to provide connectivity and free WiFi access to schools, especially those located in hard-to-reach communities.

The successful WhatsApp call highlighted how Globe Starlink satellite-to-mobile technology can help complement traditional mobile infrastructure by extending basic communication services to areas where terrestrial coverage remains challenging or economically difficult to build.

“Connectivity becomes even more meaningful when it reaches communities that have long remained underserved,” said Carl Cruz, Globe President and CEO. “Satellite-to-mobile technology can help strengthen digital inclusion by supporting access to communication services in areas where traditional infrastructure alone may not be enough.”

Globe continues to work with industry partners, technology providers, and government stakeholders in exploring solutions that can help bring connectivity closer to more Filipinos, particularly in support of education, disaster resilience, public service access, and inclusive digital participation.
