AFP, Goyo Cast, DSWD, Globe Pack Relief Goods for 15,000 Flood Victims

The Armed Forces of the Philippines Reserve Command (AFPRESCOM), cast of the much-awaited movie Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and Globe Telecom joined forces to pack relief goods intended for over 15,000 people affected by the widespread flooding triggered by monsoon rains.
Through the nationwide volunteering program called Time Please, citizen soldiers of the AFPRESCOM, Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral cast members led by actor John Arcilla, DSWD staff, and Globe employees recently gathered at the DSWD National Relief Operations Center (NROC) in Pasay City to prepare a total of 3,900 food boxes (which included rice, coffee, and canned goods) for flood victims in Central Luzon, Cordillera, Zamboanga, Western Visayas, Calabarzon, and MIMAROPA regions.
“Volunteerism cuts across all social classes and all professions, from the government to the private sector to even the entertainment industry. This is an advocacy where all of us come together, and somehow, create ripples of impact for our nation,” said Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability Officer and Senior Vice President for Corporate Communications at Globe.
The flooding caused by the August monsoon rains resulted in extensive damage to infrastructure, farm lands, and livestock, disrupting the livelihood of the affected communities. To provide support, around 80 volunteers joined forces and gathered at the NROC of DSWD in Pasay City to help pack food boxes for these communities.
Brigadier General Rolando Rodil, Commander of the AFP Reserve Command, said: “This activity highlights the solidarity of the private sector and the military through our reservists amid the challenges brought about by these calamities. With genuine compassion, we can help build the country and do our share to alleviate the plight of our less fortunate countrymen.”
The volunteering activity attended by AFPRESCOM reservists, DSWD staff, Goyo cast, and Globe employees are among the key efforts initiated by Time Please. Two months into the program, over 250,000 volunteers have collectively shared their acts of kindness, helping communities as far as Cotabato City. To date, they have rendered over 13.5 million volunteer hours through Time Please.
Aside from AFP and DSWD, the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Boy Scouts of the Philippines are among the main organizations that have partnered with Globe for the nationwide volunteering program.
