Globe entered the top 100 Best Emerging Market Performers ranking from V.E, part of Moody’s ESG Solutions, as of July 2021 for its dedication to implementing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices across its operations to attain a sustainable future.
Moody’s ESG Solutions Group is a business unit of Moody’s Corporation serving the growing global demand for ESG and climate insights. Globe, the only PH telco that made it to the list, ranked 4th out of 43 in the Telecommunications Emerging Market Sector, and one of 12 telcos to enter the top 100 list. This ranking comprises the best-performing companies listed in developing markets and which social responsibility approaches are the most advanced among 855 corporations from 31 different countries.
The scores of those included in the list are the highest of their universe in the fields of human rights, decent employment practices, environmental protection, corporate governance, business ethics, and contributions to social and economic development in areas where they operate.
“Sustainability at Globe is anchored on our Purpose, in everything we do, we treat people right to do a Globe of Good. By combining innovation with our unwavering commitment to ESG aligned with global benchmarks, we hope to deliver impactful, inclusive, and sustainable development for the nation,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe Chief Sustainability Officer and SVP for Corporate Communications.
Globe is dedicated to showing leadership in sustainability through value creation in four key pillars: Care for the Environment, Care for People, Digital Nation, and Positive Societal Impact. This year, it integrated sustainability principles in its corporate balanced scorecard to help guide its different business teams in living out the company’s purpose.
Through its environmental advocacy, Globe became the first Philippine company to commit to setting science-based targets through the Science-Based Target initiative (SBTi) to achieve its goal of having net-zero emissions in 2050. This is in line with the goals of the UN-backed #RaceToZero campaign to deliver a healthier, fairer zero-carbon world by 2050.
At present, about seven essential facilities of Globe are running on renewable energy, and 7,400 green network solutions have been deployed.
Globe has also disclosed its climate change impacts through the Carbon Disclosure Project, where it received a B- rating for 2020. It continues to support the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosure to build on its existing climate strategy by strengthening risk management and mitigation measures.
As part of its care for the people, Globe provides employees with access to sustainability-related training through Globe University, resulting in a high-performing workforce aligned with its vision. The company also adheres to international Occupational Health and Safety standards (ISO 45001) to ensure the well-being of its workforce.
In terms of digitalization, Globe provides accessible and affordable internet for those most in need via KonekTayo and strengthened the implementation of anti-child sexual abuse material and anti-piracy policies and frameworks.
The telco enables positive social impact by enabling customers with sustainable programs and initiatives as an intervention tool to create real empowerment and help uplift lives. Many of its digital solutions, including those offered by its affiliate companies like Mynt, 917 Ventures, and Asticom, ensure Filipinos at the lowest marginalized sectors are included in economic development and real beneficiaries of digital transformation.
Globe is committed to upholding the UN Global Compact principles and contributing to 10 UN Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs).
