Creating a Safer Online Environment
Being constantly online to study, play, and socialize makes children and young adults more vulnerable to sexual exploitation, abuse, identity theft, and cyberbullying, among a myriad of issues plaguing the internet today.
To educate the youth on digital citizenship and the responsible use of
technology, Globe Telecom joined forces with Optus and Singtel in launching the
Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP) in 2016. The program was eventually integrated
by the Department of Education (DepEd) in the K-12 curriculum to bolster DepEd’s
existing modules around digital literacy.
DTP is a series of workshops patterned after the Optus Digital Thumbprint
in-school program in Australia. Each module aims to increase students’ knowledge
of digital citizenship and cybersafety by taking a critical look at their online
behavior and helping them develop insights into the influences of the online
world and the choices they are making.
Due to the changes brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic which makes
people stay online for a longer time, there is now a need to hasten the
distribution of DTP to students, teachers, and parents to enable them to
identify, address, and avoid the risks present in the digital space.
By transitioning the DTP modules into easily accessible, self-learning
materials available online in partnership with DepEd, Plan International
Philippines, and UNICEF’s SaferKidsPH, Globe hopes to reach more internet users
and help them become more responsible digital citizens.

Words From Our Partners
"The partnership between Plan International Philippines and Globe Telecom on the Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP) is a remarkable feat in the field of digital literacy for girls and boys and young women and men. The DTP just came in time when our advocates needed further skills and stronger technological knowledge in thinking critically and engaging safely in the global community. Within a span of a year in cascading DTP, Plan International Philippines, through its Cyber Safe Spaces project, has successfully reached 122 girls and 3,352 men and women in Metro Manila. Remarkably, DTP has empowered our young advocates to employ stronger passwords on their accounts, turn their social media accounts into private, discern what to post and share online and above all, to thrive in this ever-changing digital world."
PLAN International Philippines
"By integrating Digital Citizenship and Responsibility into the K to 12 curriculum, the Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP) modules will be further developed for inclusion in the values formation subject. This way, all students nationwide will benefit from the lessons on digital citizenship and learn about the responsibilities that come with being online."
