Established in 1995 to mark the 50th anniversary of Catanduanes' independence from Albay, the festival showcases the island's unique cultural heritage and traditions. It also honors the island's strong Catholic traditions, paying tribute to Our Lady of La Naval, a key figure in a 1646 naval victory against Dutch invaders, and the patron saints of each municipality.

The Catandungan Festival is deeply rooted in faith. Begin your day on October 25 with a Thanksgiving Mass at 6:00 a.m. at the Virac Cathedral. Then, join the moving Parade of Faith at 7:00 a.m. as folks from different municipalities carry the revered images of their patron saints through the streets of Virac to the Capitol Grounds—a powerful display of the island's devotion.

 

4. Join the festive Grand Parade.

Don't miss the grand finale on October 26! The Grand Catandungan Parade starts at 6:30 a.m. with a vibrant procession from Imelda Boulevard to the Capitol Grounds. Then, get ready for the rhythmic beats of the Drum and Lyre Corps Parade and Competition at 1:00 p.m., also held at the Capitol Grounds.
