Meet Ronie, The Globe Tower’s Trustworthy K9 Hero
Every morning, before most employees start their day, one loyal Globe team member is already hard at work.
At first glance, Ronie looks like any friendly Labrador eager for a pat on the head. But behind his gentle demeanor is a highly trained Explosive Detection Dog (EDD) whose work helps keep The Globe Tower safe every day.
At eight years old, Ronie has spent years serving alongside the security team, patrolling the company building while becoming a familiar and well-loved presence among employees.
Ronie’s day starts with a simple routine: a bath, a clean kennel, and a hearty meal before heading out on patrol. After work, Ronie enjoys a slower pace, spending time with his handler, Emi Manuel, or Kuya Emi, who has cared for him for nearly five years.
“Tinitiyak ko po palagi na okay ang physical at mental condition ni Ronie, pati na ang kanyang pagkain at, pinakamahalaga sa lahat, ang tubig sa loob ng kanyang kulungan.” Kuya Emi narrates.
The care Ronie receives extends beyond his handler. Over the years, Globe employees have shown their appreciation through donations of food, shampoo, towels, toys, and other essentials to help keep him healthy, comfortable, and ready for duty.
Every six months, Ronie also undergoes an official evaluation with the PNP-SOSIA (Supervisory Office for Security and Investigation Agencies) to ensure he continues to meet the standards expected of an EDD.
As Ronie prepares for retirement, Kuya Emi is already thinking about the next chapter of his companion's life. He’ll return to the training camp in Caingin, San Rafael, Bulacan, where Kuya Emi will have the first opportunity to adopt him. If not, organizations like Hound Haven Philippines are also ready to help retired working dogs transition into safe, loving homes.
“Ang pinakamahalagang paghahanda ko po kay Ronie ay ang kanyang kalusugan. Kung tapos na siya sa serbisyo niya, malusog pa rin siya,” Kuya Emi expresses.
And for anyone who may one day welcome Ronie into their family, he has one simple wish: “Mahalin siya, alagaan nang mabuti, at higit sa lahat, ituring siyang tunay na kapamilya.”
Meet Globe’s Fur Friends and Fur Parents
Ronie may spend his days helping keep The Globe Tower safe, but he’s far from the only pet who has a lasting paw print on the Globe community.
Beyond the workplace, many Globe employees share their lives with beloved pets who bring comfort, companionship, and joy to their everyday routines. Together, these stories reveal a culture where pets are more than animals—they're family.
Hermione Ginger
Some pets arrive exactly when they’re needed most. For Juni, that was Hermione Ginger, a wonderfully spoiled Aspin (Asong Pinoy) whose story began during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Named after Hogwarts’ brightest witch and the home remedy that found its way into every Filipino household at that time, Ginger quickly became a symbol of comfort and resilience during an uncertain period.
As Juni spent more time caring for Ginger, she discovered that many fellow Ka-Globe shared the same love for their pets. This inspired Juni to create the GPets Globe Community, now home to more than 300 Ka-Globe pet owners who exchange tips on adoption and responsible pet care, building friendships beyond the workplace.
“I don’t have to separate who I am at work and who I am at home with my pet; they come together naturally. It’s also a reminder that the love, care, and responsibility we give to our pets are shared by so many others. Being part of this makes me feel seen, understood, and even more inspired to be a better fur parent,” Juni expresses.
Bean
Bean has never met a snack or a person he didn’t love. The three-year-old Pembroke Welsh Corgi is full of personality, following his owner, Employee Engagement Manager Johann Balmaceda, almost everywhere he goes.
His name carries two special meanings: a tribute to basketball legend Kobe Bryant, whose nickname was “Bean,” and a nod to Johann’s love of coffee.
Behind the playful energy, though, is a much deeper bond. Bean came into Johann’s life during a difficult period and quickly became a source of comfort and companionship when it was needed most.
“My puppy helped me through my toughest times, showing a lot of empathy when I needed it. I wouldn’t have gotten over the hump without him,” Johann reveals.
The experience also deepened Johann's appreciation for the role pets play in people's lives, inspiring him to become an advocate for animal welfare both inside and outside the workplace.
“It makes me feel proud because it’s not just for show. It tells me that Globe is a forward thinker and understands its employees and their wellness,” Johann adds.
Charlie
Some companions are there for life's biggest milestones. For B2C Chief Marketing Officer Roche Vandenberghe, that has been Charlie, her 11-year-old chocolate Labrador.
In his younger days, Charlie was full of playful mischief. Today, he prefers a slower pace, spending afternoons strolling around Bonifacio Global City with Roche before stopping for a well-earned puppuccino.
“He takes my mind off the good, the bad, and the ugly. So I can enjoy the moment and not worry about the past nor the future,” she says.
Through the years, Charlie has stood beside Roche amid career breakthroughs, quiet weekends, and even a global pandemic. Like many beloved pets, he never needed to say anything; his steady presence was enough to make even the toughest days feel lighter.
“When I think about the 11 years Charlie has spent by my side, I’m reminded of how he’s been a constant source of happiness, especially during the pandemic when the world felt so uncertain,” Roche recalls.
As Charlie enjoys his senior years, Roche has found herself appreciating the quiet moments they share more than ever. Watching him grow older also shows her that caring for a pet evolves with every stage of life. As their needs change, so does the way pet owners express their love: through patience, presence, and making every moment together count.
“I see a parallel between how we take care of our aging parents and how we, as human beings, will also be senior citizens someday. It makes me reflect on mortality and how the world should be kinder,” Roche philosophizes.
Pet and Animal Welfare Initiatives by Globe
The stories of Ronie, Ginger, Bean, and Charlie show that compassion can take many forms. Beyond these personal experiences, Globe supports programs that help employees and customers extend that same love to animals in need.
One example is Paws for a Cause, where Ka-Globes volunteered at the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) Animal Rehabilitation Center. They prepared meals, cleaned the shelter, and even read books to the once stray dogs and cats. The initiative gave employees an opportunity to support animal welfare beyond their own pets while contributing to the well-being of rescued animals.
Everyday mobile activities can also become opportunities to give back.
