History of Pride Month in the Philippines
Before becoming the nationwide movement it is today, Pride began with a single historic step. On June 26, 1994, local advocates organized “Stonewall Manila” in Quezon City.
In doing so, they proudly connected the local movement to global history, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York City.
The Stonewall Riots started when police raided the Stonewall Inn, a popular gay bar in Greenwich Village. Members of the LGBTQIA+ community fought back with spontaneous protests, and those protests became a defining symbol of unity and self-expression.

While events like the Metro Manila Pride and other local Pride festivals continue to bring thousands together, participation doesn't begin and end with parades.
