Powering Panagbenga: Globe Expands Connectivity in Baguio City with New Cell Sites
Globe further strengthens its mobile and data services in Baguio City with the construction of new cell sites in three barangays, reinforcing its commitment to enhancing connectivity in the country’s summer capital.
Globe also upgraded existing sites in at least 40 locations across the city in response to growing connectivity needs, especially during major events such as the Panagbenga Festival.
“Globe remains committed to expanding connectivity in Baguio to meet the evolving needs of residents and visitors. With the city’s thriving economy and tourism industry, dependable mobile and data services are essential for seamless communication and supporting digital-driven enterprises,” said Joel Agustin, Globe’s Head of Service Planning and Engineering.
The strategic placement of Globe’s new towers improves network coverage and reliability, bridges communication gaps, and provides access to essential online services, including education, healthcare, and financial platforms.
Moreover, the expansion supports Baguio’s robust tourism industry, which accounts for up to 25% of the city’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
The Philippine Statistics Authority earlier reported that Baguio led the Cordillera Administrative Region’s economic growth with a nine percent increase in 2023. This was largely driven by the services sector, such as accommodations and food service activities, which contributed 73.7 percent.
Improved connectivity is especially crucial during events such as the Panagbenga Festival, enhancing visitor experiences and supporting local businesses by ensuring reliable communication and easy access to digital services.
The Panagbenga Festival is a month-long celebration of Baguio’s culture and heritage, attracting thousands of visitors from across the country. It showcases grand float parades and lively street performances that highlight the rich traditions of the Cordilleras.
Beyond its natural beauty and cool climate, Baguio is known for its diverse culinary scene and thriving arts community, making it a favorite vacation spot for local tourists.
Globe’s ongoing network builds align with the national digital agenda, driving inclusive economic growth and improving digital access. By expanding coverage in Baguio, Globe not only supports the tourism-driven economy but also creates better opportunities for residents and businesses.
