The Fair Use Policy is designed to reduce the speeds of only the 3% of users who are responsible for generating large volumes of traffic on your network. This greatly impacts the service we offer to other paying subscribers.

These customers often:

  • Have file-sharing software.

  • Have peer-to-peer/torrent apps on their phones or tablets.

  • Ddownload large-format files (such as music, videos, and movies) consistently.

This means customers on an internet promo and plan who exceed 1 GB a day or 3 GB per month (whichever comes first) will experience browsing at slower speeds.

Globe's Fair Use Policy:

  • Allows us to maintain the quality of our mobile internet service and give all Globe customers a fair opportunity to enjoy our network.

  • Is aligned with the global industry practice of telecommunications providers anywhere in the world and is subject to change without prior notice.

  • Applies to all surfing promos and internet plans for Globe Postpaid and Tattoo Postpaid, except GoSURF and PowerSurf. It also does not cover surfing charged with regular browsing rates (P5/15 minutes).

FAQs

Why is the Fair Use Policy being implemented?

We want to give all Globe customers a fair opportunity to enjoy our network. So we've decided to implement a Fair Use Policy that's designed to reduce the speeds of only the 3% of users. These users are responsible for generating large volumes of traffic on the network, which greatly impacts the service we offer to other paying customers.

Those who are most likely to be affected by the Fair Use Policy are those who use peer-to-peer applications to download large files, use their mobile phone as a personal hotspot, or stream videos heavily on a daily basis. These activities use up a huge portion of network bandwidth, affecting customers like you.

We assure you that neither lines nor mobile internet service are cut when a customer is affected by the Fair Use Policy. If a customer reaches the 1GB/day or 3GB/month threshold (Postpaid customers) or 800MB/day threshold (Prepaid customers), the internet speed will just slow down to make sure that others can also enjoy our shared resource.

Does this mean you will cut or stop my internet service?

No. Implementing the Fair Use Policy doesn't mean that your mobile internet service will be stopped. Remember that you could still enjoy browsing; it's just that if you reach the threshold, you'll experience slower speed. You may continue to surf websites, use Facebook, Twitter, etc. but may have difficulty with heavy internet activities like streaming and downloads.

Is this Fair Use Policy only with Globe? Or this applies to other telcos, too?

The policy doesn't only apply with Globe. Other telecommunications companies in the Philippines, as well as around the world, implement this in compliance with global industry practices. If you'll notice, the terms and conditions under your contract also cover a provision on FUP.
