Protect Yourself Against SIM Swap Scams

A SIM swap scam is a form of scam that aims to take over your telco subscription and other digital accounts linked to your SIM.

Scammers typically target individuals who use their mobile numbers to receive one-time PINs (OTPs) for verifying bank transactions and online purchases. They may try to obtain your OTP by:

  • Calling or texting you while posing as your mobile service provider.

  • Pretending to be a Globe representative offering a SIM replacement at your address.

  • Gathering personal details through phishing attempts before requesting a SIM swap.

Once they gain control of your SIM, they can receive OTPs meant for you, allowing unauthorized access to your bank and credit card accounts.

Remember: Globe, banks, and legitimate institutions will never ask for your OTP. Never share it with anyone.

Follow these steps to safeguard your personal information and prevent scammers from accessing your accounts:

  1. Keep personal details private.

    • Avoid publicly sharing your name, address, mobile number, and email on social media.

    • Refrain from posting screenshots of bills or transactions that display sensitive information.

  2. Strengthen your account security.

    • Use strong and unique passwords for all your digital accounts and update them regularly.

    • Enable two-factor authentication using security keys, apps, or device prompts.

  3. Be alert for suspicious activity.

    • If your mobile number suddenly stops working, it may indicate a SIM swap attempt.

    • If someone asks you to turn off your phone unexpectedly, be cautious—it could be part of a scam.

  4. Take immediate action if you suspect fraud.

    • If you think your account is compromised, monitor your transactions and change your passwords immediately.

    • Report the incident to Globe so your SIM can be deactivated.

  • For Postpaid - go to the GlobeOne app and request for temporary disconnection of your line under “Account Requests”

  • For Prepaid - go to the nearest Globe store

Next, Inform your credit card and bank companies immediately and report the incident to your local authority.

To recover your mobile number, go to the nearest Globe store to get a SIM replacement.

If you ever receive such a call or text scam, please report them to Globe through our Stop Spam page.
