Voice Over LTE (VoLTE) and Voice Over WiFi (VoWiFi)

What are VoLTE and VoWiFi?

VoLTE stands for voice over LTE. It's a feature that lets you make voice calls over the LTE network, rather than over the 2G and 3G networks we normally use.

VoWiFi Call, or voice over Wi-Fi, is a complementary technology to VoLTE and lets you make voice calls over a Wi-Fi network. This capability is also called Wi-Fi Calling on certain devices.

Compared to 2G and 3G calls, calls made through VoLTE and VoWiFi Call have better voice quality and faster setup time.

In fact, you may use VoLTE or VoWiFi Call  even if your called party doesn’t have a VoLTE-capable device. Calls between VoLTE/VoWiFi Call  - VoLTE/VoWiFi Call will have a long-beep ringtone, similar to IDD calls. For calls between VoLTE or VoWiFi Call  and 3G/2G, the call will have the normal ringtone.

How do I turn on VoLTE or VoWiFi Call in my phone settings?

To activate VoLTE and VoWiFi Call, you must:

  • Ensure that you have upgraded your SIM to LTE/5G.
  • Check if your device is VoLTE/VoWiFi Call capable (“What devices can be used for Globe VoLTE/VoWiFi?”)
  • Update to the latest OS version for your device.
  • Turn on VoLTE and WiFi Calling in Settings.

To turn on VoLTE

  • On Android phones, Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks > VoLTE calls
  • On iOS, Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Voice & Data > turn on VoLTE

To turn on VoWiFi Call:

  • On Android phones, Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi Calling
  • On iOS, Settings > Cellular > Wi-Fi Calling > Turn on Wi-Fi Calling on this iPhone
  • Check if any of these icons appear on your status bar to confirm successful activation.

What are the advantages or benefits of VoLTE/VoWiFi Call?

With VoLTE or VoWiFi Call,

1. Your calls sound better
2. Your calls connect faster
3. You can send and receive text messages faster
4. Your phone has longer battery life
5. You can use calls and data at the same time
6. VoWiFi can help alleviate indoor coverage problems

On Android phones, you can even make video calls between VoLTE/VoWiFi  Call devices, without going through a separate app.

Am I eligible to use VoLTE and VoWiFi Call?

All Globe Postpaid customers can now enjoy VoLTE and VoWiFi Call.

Starting November 9, 2022, we provisioned VoLTE/ VoWiFi for selected eligible Globe Prepaid and TM customers. You may refer to the text that you received for the steps to activate it. We are working to offer this to other Globe Prepaid customers soon.

How will I know if I'm connected to VoLTE/VoWiFi Call?

To know if you're connected to VoLTE:

> On Android phones, you should be able to see the VoLTE icon in your home screen beside your cell signal bar.
> On iPhones, you should be able to see the LTE icon even during calls.

To know if you're connected to VoWiFi:

> On Android phones, you should be able to see the VoWiFi icon beside your WiFi signal bar.
> On iPhones, you should be able to see VoWiFi beside the Globe signal when you swipe down from the top and in your lock screen.

Where can I check the software to update VoLTE/VoWiFi Call features?

To check if your software is updated for VoLTE/VoWiFi:

  • For Android, go to your Device Settings > Software Update, check if your device is up-to-date. If not, please update it first.
  • For iPhones, go to your Settings > General >> About. You'll get a message asking to install the latest OS update. After downloading this new update, simply restart your iPhone just to ensure that the installation process of all updates is done properly.
Will there be additional charges if I use VoLTE/VoWiFi Call?

We won’t be charging additional fees for VoLTE. If you’re registered to an unlimited call promo within Globe, you can also have unli VoLTE calls within Globe. Your mobile data allowance will not be used up when you make VoLTE calls.

There won’t be additional charges for VoWiFi Call either. Calls over VoWiFi will be charged just like a regular call.

If VoLTE/VoWiFi Call is active on my account, why can't my device use VoLTE/VoWiFi? How do I troubleshoot this?

To check why you can't use VoLTE, please do the following:

  • Check if your device is VoLTE-capable
  • Check if there is a software update. For Huawei devices, also check for an update in HiCare App. For Apple, also check in Settings>General>About.
  • For Samsung, check if VoLTE is turned on in the icons list when you swipe down from the top, or in your device settings
  • Check Network Mode (LTE)
  • Check to make sure your Internet APN is internet.globe.com.ph
  • Restart your device

To check why you can't use VoWiFi Call, please do the following:

  • Check if the device is capable of VoWiFi Call.
  • Check if the device software is updated.
  • Check if connected to WiFi with internet. The WiFi speed considered as reliable for VoWiFi is 512 kbps or at least 3 Wi-Fi bars. You may also conduct an Internet speedtest via www.speedtest.net to make sure.
  • Check if VoWiFi is turned on in your device settings and VoLTE is turned off.
  • Check if WiFi preferred over mobile network for voice calls is enabled in your device settings.
  • Try restarting your device.

If your experience is still the same after performing these troubleshooting steps or if you need further assistance, send us a message at m.me/globeph.

How do I turn off VoLTE or VoWiFi in my phone settings?
  • For Samsung, you may simply turn on/off VoLTE and VoWiFi by going to Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks for VoLTE or > WiFi for WiFi Calling.
  • For Huawei, go to your Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile network for VoLTE, or > WiFi Calling
  • For iPhones, go to your Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Voice & Data for VoLTE, or > WiFi Calling.
Why can't I make calls with my VoWiFi?

You need to enable your device location first and/or turn off the airplane mode.

Can I use VoWiFi on any Wi-Fi connection?

Yes you may, but please make sure to select a secure Wi-Fi connection. We highly recommend that you connect to a private Wi-Fi connection that has a strong signal against latching onto a public Wi-Fi access such as what you find in malls and airports. Connecting to public Wi-Fi access with unreliable signal may result in call failure when using your VoWiFi services.

To enjoy VoWiFi, you need to have the following:

  1. An LTE SIM
  2. A VoWiFi-capable phone
  3. VoWiFi is activated on your mobile device. If your VoWiFi isn't activated yet, you may make the request via the GlobeOne app by going to the Menu > Help & Support > Send Us Your Concern > Network Concern > I want to activate my VoLTE/VoWiFi service.
