As young Filipinos spend more time online for school, entertainment, and social connection, digital safety has become an equally important part of meaningful connectivity. Alongside the opportunities created by wider internet access, children and teenagers also face growing exposure to scams, harmful content, identity misuse, and serious threats such as Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials (CSAEM).
Empowering young people with digital safety skills is becoming increasingly vital as online engagement continues to grow, with early education helping build awareness, responsibility, and resilience in navigating digital spaces.
Marking Safer Internet Month last February, Globe reinforced and extended this commitment in South Luzon through its Digital Thumbprint Program, giving students practical tools to stay safe online and make informed digital choices. The effort aligns with the nationwide campaign led by the Department of Justice through the National Coordination Center Against OSAEC-CSAEM under this year’s theme, “Ako, Ikaw, Tayo: Konektado at Protektado Laban sa OSAEC at CSAEM.”
A defining strength of Globe’s approach is its employee volunteer movement. Employees undergo focused training and certification to become Digital Thumbprint Program Ambassadors, equipping them with tools to guide discussions on cybersecurity, responsible digital behavior, privacy protection, and online risk awareness. By preparing employees to lead these sessions, Globe transforms its workforce into digital safety advocates who help communities better understand the realities of today’s online environment. Complex topics such as phishing, digital footprints, account security, and online consent are translated into relatable situations that resonate with students and encourage practical action.
At Gov. Ferrer East National High School in Cavite, Globe Business Development Expert and employee-volunteer JP Castillo led an interactive Digital Thumbprint Program session for 100 students, teaching them how to spot suspicious online activity, protect personal information, secure their accounts, and make responsible digital choices for safer online engagement.
Using familiar online scenarios, students were encouraged to examine common habits, from accepting unknown friend requests to sharing personal details and understand how simple choices can reduce exposure to risk. The workshop also encouraged participants to become positive digital role models among their peers and help promote responsible internet use in their own communities.
Since its launch in 2016, Globe’s Digital Thumbprint Program has reached nearly two million learners nationwide, making it one of the company’s most sustained digital literacy initiatives. In 2025 alone, more than 16,500 students and educators participated in DTP learning sessions focused on online safety, privacy, and child protection.
These grassroots engagements reflect Globe’s broader sustainability commitment: ensuring that as connectivity expands, communities are equally equipped with the knowledge to navigate digital spaces safely and responsibly.
“As we observe Safer Internet Month, we reaffirm our commitment to protecting Filipino children in the digital space. Through the Digital Thumbprint Program, we empower employees to become ambassadors who bring digital safety education directly to schools and communities,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer. “This initiative reflects our sustainability commitment, ensuring that as we expand connectivity, we also strengthen digital literacy, responsibility, and protection against online risks such as OSAEC and CSAEM. Together with our partners, we continue to build a safer and more inclusive digital future for every Filipino.”
Globe views digital safety as a shared responsibility. By bringing employee-volunteers into classrooms, the company helps students recognize risks and make safer choices, empowering them to promote responsible online behavior in their communities.
