Besting about a hundred other candidates, the awardees are Nicole Belena, a B.S Accountancy freshman from De La Salle University; Miguel Guerrero, a B.S. Management Engineering student from Ateneo de Manila University; Cassandra Lim, a B.S. Business Administration & Accountancy freshman student from University of the Philippines-Diliman; Natalie Tiu, a B.S. Management student from Ateneo; and Pia Ysabel Zulueta, B.S. Information Technology Entrepreneurship, another freshman from Ateneo.

Five outstanding students from the country’s top universities were chosen as recipients of this year's Globe-SingTel Undergraduate Scholarship Program following a rigorous selection process.

Led by Globe and its major shareholder Singapore Telecommunications Ltd., the scholarship program serves as a platform for the two companies to harness young talents in the field of technology as well as prepare them for future leadership roles.

"The scholarship opens up wonderful possibilities, with opportunities for broad exposure and networking for both Globe and Singtel. The goal is to create an environment that will create exceptional talents in the next-generation world of telecommunications and ICT as we endeavor to build a digital nation,” Globe President & CEO Ernest Cu said.

The program, which began in 2011, is a merit scholarship program based on academic records, extra-curricular activities and community service accomplishments. The scholarship grant will cover tuition and other miscellaneous fees as well as book, meal, transportation and living allowances for the entire duration of their college years. The scholars, upon graduation, will also be given an internship stint in both Globe and SingTel and will take part of the management development program of Globe or SingTel.
