What’s an eSIM?
An eSIM is a digital SIM that’s embedded and can’t be removed from certain mobile phones and allows you to activate a mobile phone plan from your network operator without the use of a physical nano SIM.
A handful of smartwatches support an eSIM, such as the Apple Watch LTE, HUAWEI Watch 2, Samsung Galaxy Watch LTE, but these aren’t available in the Philippines yet.
How’s an eSIM different from a physical nano SIM?
A physical nano SIM is something you can hold and remove from your device. When your device supports an eSIM, this means:
- The SIM is already embedded into the device.
- It’s ready to be activated by the network carrier based on the configuration of the mobile device.
- Users may add multiple profiles or mobile numbers, which can be used one at a time, depending on the device.
As of 2018, Globe is the first to make this available in the Philippines. The eSIM is currently available in only ten countries so far.
Can I get an eSIM with Globe? Do all iPhone Xs/Xs Max and XR support an eSIM?
If you're a Globe Postpaid customer and ordered the latest iPhone Xs, Xs Max, or XR from Globe, you may activate the eSIM of your eSIM-capable phone starting December 27, 2018. Selected Globe stores will be ready to assist you with this.
To confirm this, you may check your phone settings. Go to "Cellular" > Tap "About" > Look for “Add Cellular Plan.”
Some countries, though, have released iPhone versions that don’t support an eSIM.
Can I get an eSIM if I’m a Globe Prepaid/TM customer?
At present, the eSIM is only available for Globe Postpaid customers. Don’t worry, we’re working to make this feature available for our Globe Prepaid and TM customers soon.
