Globe x Starlink: What This New Connectivity Means for Every Filipino

October 21, 2026
Body Text

In a nation of over 7,600 islands, connectivity in the Philippines is deeply shaped by geography. Reaching isolated communities takes creative solutions, which is why telecom companies like Globe continuously expand and strengthen their network nationwide.

With the support of key government agencies led by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. witnessed former Globe Chairman Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala (JAZA) and President and CEO Carl Cruz join leaders from Starlink to introduce satellite-to-mobile connectivity. This breakthrough marks the creation of a new path to stay connected in more places.

“This partnership with Starlink marks a historic step in our mission to build a digitally inclusive nation,” said Carl Cruz during the Globe-Starlink launch. “Connectivity is a lifeline and a modern-day utility that fuels individual opportunity and national economic progress.”

As it extends mobile coverage across the archipelago, the partnership between Globe and Starlink provides reliable connectivity to regions once out of reach.

What’s the Globe-Starlink Partnership?

Globe is the first telecommunications provider in Southeast Asia to bring Starlink's satellite-to-mobile service to market. The Globe–Starlink partnership turns the sky into a network grid to bring cellular connectivity to the most unreachable places. This collaboration deploys Starlink’s over 650 low-Earth orbit satellites as cell towers in space, enhancing Globe’s seamless connectivity through three core advantages.

  • Space-Based Long Term Evolution (LTE) Infrastructure: Starlink’s satellite network orbiting 550 kilometers above Earth can deliver signals directly to compatible mobile phones.

  • No New Hardware Needed: Satellites act as cell towers in space, allowing compatible smartphones to connect directly without a dish or special antennas.

  • Familiar Mobile Experience: Core features like SMS, light data access, and essential navigation apps work seamlessly with your phone’s existing network. There’s no need to modify anything.

How Globe and Starlink Complement Mobile Networks

Globe and Starlink combine ground and satellite technologies to extend connectivity beyond the reach of traditional mobile infrastructure and eliminate dead zones.

In this set-up, Globe provides the mobile network and spectrum, while Starlink acts as a cell tower in space, keeping your service under your existing Globe account, with dedicated Globe Starlink promos now available to eligible customers.

This integrated approach delivers connectivity through four key highlights.

  • Automatic Connection: Compatible LTE, 4G, and 5G devices automatically connect to GStarlink signal when users enter areas without mobile coverage. To enable this connection, users simply need to activate their phone’s Data Roaming and ensure they’re outdoors with a view of the sky. Currently, Globe Starlink is compatible with Android and HarmonyOS. Support for iOS is coming soon.

  • No Changes Needed: Globe and TM subscribers can seamlessly enjoy Globe Starlink promos using their existing SIM, mobile number, and any satellite-compatible device where service is available. This service delivers on-the-go mobile connectivity wherever you are.

  • Targeted Remote Coverage: The system beams a vital lifeline to Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs), extending SMS and light data services to remote barangays, mountains, and offshore locations.

  • Seamless Handoff: The transition between ground towers and satellites happens automatically, ensuring you stay connected without disrupting your device’s 4G, LTE, or 5G service.

Who Benefits Most from Satellite-to-Mobile Connectivity

Globe Starlink helps extend reliable connectivity to underserved and hard-to-reach communities across the Philippines.

A historic first for the Philippines and Southeast Asia, Globe Starlink marks a monumental leap in regional connectivity by extending a reliable lifeline to the most isolated corners of the archipelago.

This pioneering partnership combines Globe’s ground network coverage with satellite-to-mobile connectivity. It empowers critical sectors and underserved communities across several key groups.

Disaster-Affected Areas

Globe Starlink provides a resilient lifeline from space when ground networks go down, especially during emergencies or natural disasters.

Its signal beams from the sky and remains fully operational even if severe winds or floods destroy local cell towers. This allows rescue teams to coordinate relief efforts whenever necessary.

Demonstrating this impact, Globe rolled out its first disaster response deployment of the satellite-to-mobile service in South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani following a magnitude 7.8 earthquake.

Approved by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), this intervention allowed Globe to deploy Globe Starlink satellite technology in Mindanao, providing over 700,000 Globe and TM customers with free SMS and WhatsApp messaging for up to 30 days while local networks were being restored.

Safety Tip: Staying safe is always the top priority. Learn how to prepare your home for heavy rains or what to do during an earthquake to reduce risks and stay ready.

Families in Remote Barangays

Staying in touch with relatives in far-flung islands or mountainous communities can now be a routine rather than a rare event. Families no longer need to travel to town centers just to send updates.

Through messaging and navigation apps, loved ones can easily exchange quick check-ins, bridging the distance for communities that have been hardest to reach.

Students in Far-Flung Areas

Reliable text and light data services help narrow the learning gap in remote areas. Students can now consult with teachers and catch up on schoolwork.

With Globe Starlink, students can stay in touch with teachers, get text updates, and coordinate basic logistics without having to travel far, keeping them consistently connected to essential educational support.

Local Government Units and Community Services

Text messaging and low-bandwidth data capabilities empower local governments and rural health centers to operate more efficiently.

Even with limited infrastructure, local teams can coordinate emergency logistics via SMS, use basic navigation apps for location tracking, and broadcast critical public health updates or medical advice via text.

Small Businesses and Entrepreneurs

For entrepreneurs in geographically isolated areas, light data access eliminates the need to travel to town centers just to run a business.

Local artists, farmers, and shop owners can now use mobile data to process text-based online orders, receive instant digital payment confirmations from GCash, and communicate directly with customers via messaging apps.

Fisherfolk and Maritime Workers

At sea, staying connected ensures both safety and peace of mind. Supporting connectivity up to 12 nautical miles offshore within Philippine territorial waters, this satellite-enabled mobile signal allows fishers and maritime workers to receive weather updates, stay in touch with families, and call for assistance.

Bridging the Connectivity Gap from Space

Traditional prepaid promos and postpaid plans face reach limitations in remote areas. Globe Starlink enhances nationwide coverage through a satellite-to-mobile layer, offering text messaging and light data apps to complement standard networks.

Increasingly, digital connectivity is evolving into the fifth utility of modern life, alongside essential services such as water, electricity, transportation, and waste management. Globe Starlink’s integration of terrestrial and satellite networks bridges these gaps, empowering education, protecting livelihoods, and serving as a vital lifeline during emergencies.

Ultimately, continuous innovation brings a more inclusive Philippines closer to reality: one where everyone, regardless of location, can thrive and find their purpose in an increasingly connected world.
